AROUND 2.5million UK motorists could have invalid car insurance and a further 6% of vehicles are uninsured, it was claimed today.
Drivers could find themselves with an invalid insurance policy having provided inaccurate information during the application process.
Research from uSwitch .com reveals 10% of drivers have provided inaccurate crucial information such as their age, address, no-claims bonus, and previous driving convictions in an attempt to save cash on premiums.
Aron Thompson, of uSwitch.com, said: "With many seeing car insurance as a grudge purchase, it's no surprise to see people either withhold or knowingly provide inaccurate information in order to get cheaper cover.
"However, it could cost the drivers on average £1636, as the provider is under no obligation to settle a claim based on a policy which is inaccurate."
About 2.3m motorists hold back the full truth about what they use their car for. Six out of 10 use their car for their journey to work, yet up to two-fifths do not have sufficient cover for this as they opted for just social, domestic and pleasure' cover, not commuting.
