MORE than 60 residents living in the vicinity of the Clyde Submarine Base at Faslane have staged a protest march to demonstrate against the disruption caused by peace activists.
The residents, calling themselves Peninsula 24/7, claim the year-long blockades of the A814 have prevented children from getting to school and delayed journeys to work.
It is the second protest staged by the group in a month and they were joined by Labour MSP Jackie Baillie, who claims the closure of the base would lead to around 10,000 job losses.
The campaigners marched to the Clyde Naval Base's front gates to protest against the sit-down demonstrations.
According to some residents of Garelochhead, children have already missed exams because of the actions of anti-Trident group Faslane 365.
They also claim children have to take a 20-mile detour to school in Helensburgh, a journey which should be just seven miles, while adults have been prevented from going to work because of the road blockages.
The Faslane 365 protest has had a presence at the Clyde base since October, with activists coming from across Europe to voice their anger at plans to renew Trident.
In April, more than 100 residents from Garelochhead and the surrounding area of Argyll marched to the naval base.
The nuclear protesters insist they have offered a compromise deal by holding no blockades before 9am and between 12pm and 2pm during the exam period, while they have a policy of not obstructing any emergency vehicles.
