POLICE in Glasgow dealt with more than 100 “domestic incidents” in 72 hours over Christmas, figures show.

Scotland’s force released a ‘snapshot of activity’ over the past three days.

Officers responded to a total of 1882 calls from December 25-27, including 720 emergency alerts which led to 383 crime reports.

A total of 107 domestic incidents were logged.

Police launched a fresh crackdown on domestic abuse ahead of the festive season.

Figures show there was a 25 per cent rise in reports of incidents over Christmas last year.

More than £110,000 of extra funding has also been allocated for new domestic abuse alarms for high-risk victims, due to be rolled out early next year.

Police also dealt with 64 road crashes, 46 missing person reports and 125 calls related to vulnerable people.

Extra patrols had been deployed in the city centre to keep festive revellers safe.

Meanwhile, an investigation has been launched into a Boxing Day blaze which resulted in people being evacuated from their homes in the early hours of the morning.

Six appliances and 35 firefighters tackled the blaze which broke out in a first floor of a block of flats in Craigmillar Road.

Ten residents were escorted out of the building and although some were treated for minor smoke inhalation, nobody needed hospital treatment.

It is not yet known how the fire started but it is not believed to have been suspicious.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “Operations control immediately mobilised six appliances which used powerful water jets to extinguish the fire.”

Fire crews remained at the scene until 8.20am yesterday checking to see if the fire had spread and to dampen down the building.
