By Rebecca Stevens SOME of Glasgow's best 'musicians' will strut their stuff on stage this weekend at Scotland's first official Air Guitar Championship.

And the winner won't leave empty-handed there's tickets for a jet set trip to London for the best plucker in town.

John Georgie, Air Guitar Scotland organiser, has teamed up with Rock Radio and the Classic Grand, the Jamaica Street venue where the event will take place this Saturday, to make his dream of an official championship a reality.

For those of you unaware of the phenomenon that is air guitar, it involves playing an imaginary guitar, usually to music, mainly of the rock variety.

Entries from budding air guitarists in Glasgow have been flooding in.

Contestants have also been signing up online on through Rock Radios website, one of the Championships sponsors.

On the night, competitors get 60 seconds of a chosen track to impress the judges, including the 2008 UK Champion Danny 'the Midnight Moses' Robertson.

They will then be rated and the competitors with the top five highest scores put through to the final round 'strum-out' with the winner being the guitarist with the highest combined score from the two rounds.

By being crowned the Scottish Air Guitar Champion the winner will represent the country at the UK Air Guitar Championship being held in London on August 7.

The overall winner from the UK Championship will appear at the 14th World Air Guitar Championships in Finland.
