IF you plan to vote in the Glasgow East by-election there is still time to register.

As long as you are registered by next Wednesday, July 9, you will still be eligible to take part in the July 24 poll.

Andy O'Neill, head of Electoral Commission in Scotland, said: "If you are not on the electoral register, you won't be able to vote.

"If you've moved house in the last year, you may not be on the register and you don't automatically go on if you pay council tax."

Mr O'Neill added that anyone going on holiday who wants to apply for a postal vote also has until July 9 to apply.

The by-election was called after Labour MP David Marshall, 67, resigned on health grounds.

Mr Marshall held the Westminster seat with a majority of 13,500 over the SNP.
