Student Allister Boyd, who has terminal cancer, and Scottish pop legend Midge Ure celebrated as they were honoured by Glasgow's Caledonian University.
Allister, who has raised £105,000 for cancer charities over the last four months, and Live Aid co-founder Midge received Honorary Fellowships.
The university has also established an annual award named after the 20-year-old, who has an inoperable form of cancer.
"This is unbelievable," Allister said. "When I started fundraising, I never expected this. I feel privileged."
The youngster, from Stair, Ayrshire, said he enjoyed raising money for charities CLIC Sargent and the Teen Cancer Trust.
"The best thing is making people more aware of the facts about cancer especially teenagers, they listen to someone who's close to their age," he said.
Allistair was forced to give up his Business Studies course at the university due to his illness.
Former Ultravox singer Midge, originally from Cambuslang, who was honoured for his charity work, joked: "Well, at least one of these men worked for his degree."
The Allister Boyd Award will be presented annually to the student who demonstrates an outstanding contribution to the health and wellbeing of others.
The university's Alison Arnot said that the award was in recognition of Allister's entrepreneurial skills being put to use for a good cause.
"He's such a good role model," she said.
