In the second of our new food list features, we've asked Yelp Glasgow to recommend 10 places to get that classic takeaway or sit-in treat...the fish supper. So whether you take salt and vinegar or salt and sauce, give them a go.                         

1.  The Chippy Doon the Lane, 23 Royal Exchange Square, Glasgow G1 3AJ

In the city centre and feeling romantic? At the Chippy, you can get a fish supper to share between two. Yelp reviewers tell us "the quality of the fish is superb" with crisp batter and chips that are "that perfect blend of firm on the outside and fluffy within."

2.  Benny’s Fish and Chicken Bar, 693 Alexandra Parade, Dennistoun G31 3LN

An old school chippy with incredibly generous portions. "Chips were lovely; chunky, not too greasy or crispy and the fish was really good, quality fish." Service is speedy and while you wait you can peruse their selection of sweeties.

3.  Crabshakk, 1114 Argyle Street, Finnieston G3 8TD

Serving fish and chips with tartare, or a wee fish supper for those with smaller appetites, Crabshakk is  lively and friendly. You might find yourself sitting close to a stranger, but the range of dishes should keep fish fanatics happy.

4.  Gandolfi Fish to Go, 84 - 86 Albion Street, Glasgow G1 1NY

Summed up beautifully by a Yelper: "All the convenience of a takeaway with the advantages of an excellent kitchen - great!" The menu includes a wee supper as well as more flashy lobster, scallops and langoustine.

5.  Café Zecchino, 331 - 335 Cumbernauld Road, Dennistoun G31 3LP

A sit-in or a takeaway, Café Zecchino serves up fish suppers as well as amazing pizza if you feel like a sea change. Fish suppers served up in cardboard boxes with decent fish and tasty chips.

6.  Jack McPhees, 261 Hope Street, Glasgow G2 3PS

"As good a sit-down chippy as you’ll find anywhere", according to its fans, with a guy behind the fryer who "knows how to prepare fish". Always a plus. With a choice of haddock, cod, sole or sea bass for your supper, every seafaring taste is catered for.

7.  The Night Star, 570 Clarkston Road, Muirend G44 3SQ

A Yelper advises: "if you like chips, buy them from here – you will NOT regret it!" High praise for a south side chippy with a wide range of suppers as well as pizza on the menu. Also highly recommended are the potato fritters.

8.  Merchant Chippie, 155 High Street, Glasgow G1 1PH

A huge range of fish suppers as well as scampi, prawns and calamari with "everything fried to order". You’ve also got the choice of traditional batter, or panko breadcrumbs for that something a bit special. Yelpers say "the crunch is sublime". Enough to get any mouth watering.

9.  Mario’s Plaice, 285-287 Byres Road, Glasgow G12 8TL

Who could resist such a cheesy pun? Serving up a traditional haddock fish supper with chips as well as an extra side (mushy peas please!) this is a great place for to dine in. For something different they also serve up a full breakfast which is highly recommended by Yelpers.   

10.  Philadelphia Fish & Chicken Bar, 445 Great Western Road, Glasgow G12 8HH

This has been proclaimed "the best fish and chips in town" with great lunchtime deals and they "rattle through long queues in a matter of minutes." You’ll find flavour-packed fish and chunky chips.
