Following a history degree at Leeds University, I completed the journalism course at Glasgow Caledonian University in May 2011. I did shifts as part of the Evening Times training scheme, before being taken on full time in January 2012. I now cover the east end of Glasgow.
But, last November, Deborah Hanlon died from the disease at the age of 36.
In 2009 she beat breast cancer after undergoing treatment but, just two years later, it returned, and this time took her life.
Now, her fiance 40-year-old David Allsop, is running the Edinburgh Marathon in her memory and to raise money for the nurses who cared for her.
