A BIKER was jailed for nine months yesterday after admitting hitting the fastest-ever speed recorded on a Scottish road.
Hairdresser Neil Purves was clocked at 166mph while travelling through the Borders on May 13. He was travelling at more than 100mph over the legal limit when he was caught by police on the A702 near West Linton, Peeblesshire.
The 27-year-old of Cockburnspath, Berwickshire, pleaded guilty to a dangerous driving charge at Peebles Sheriff Court.
In addition to the jail sentence he was banned from the road for five years.
Defence lawyer Graham Walker said: "It is fair to say he was seduced by speed."
The court was told that Purves, who has since sold his powerful Suzuki GSX-R 1000 motorcycle, covered 0.7 of a mile in just 16 seconds.
