BRITISH National Party chief Nick Griffin refused to go on the Glasgow North East by-election campaign trail after he was pelted with eggs by protesters in Hamilton.
Mr Griffin came under the spotlight on the day nominations closed for the poll on November 12. A total of 13 candidates will contest the seat previously held by former Commons speaker Michael Martin.
Charlie Baillie, the BNP's by-election candidate, was left kicking his heels for 2hours outside the Springburn Shopping Centre, after repeatedly claiming Mr Griffin was on his way.
He was eventually forced to travel to Hamilton to meet the party leader, who was visiting the FEBA Veterans' Centre.
The by-election candidates are: Charlie Baillie, BNP; Willie Bain, Labour; Eileen Baxendale, LibDems; Mev Brown, Independent; Colin Campbell, The Individuals Labour and Tory; Ruth Davidson, Tories; David Doherty, Green Party; Mikey Hughes; David Kerr, SNP; Louise McDaid, Socialist Labour; Kevin McVey, Scottish Socialists; Tommy Sheridan, Solidarity; John Smeaton, Jury Team
