THE mission for the night was clear - raise £10,000 for the cancer charity Maggie's Campaign.

Stars graced the red carpet to take up the challenge as champagne corks popped and an Aston Martin arrived outside at the Scottish screening of the new Bond film, Quantum of Solace.

TV presenter Angus Purden was one of the first stars at the glitzy bash at Glasgow's Cineworld on Renfield street with Anna Marriott and Maureen Fee of Maggie's.

Evening Times readers have previously raised £500,000 for Glasgow's Maggie's Centre which was opened next to the Western Infirmary in 2002.

Rangers and Scotland star Christian Dailly, and his wife Kirsty also attended the event.

The couple are long-standing supporters of Maggie's and, with a fundraising committee, have generated more than £100,000 for the Maggie's Centre in Dundee following the death of the footballer's father.

Christian said: "We are here to have a fun night but it is important for us to be here, too."

Also in attendance was former First Minister Jack McConnell with his wife, Bridget.

The event was part of Evening Times' sister paper The Herald's Friends of Maggie's Campaign.

It was dedicated to the memory of Calum Macdonald, a former journalist with the Evening Times and The Herald who died earlier this month, aged 32, shortly after being diagnosed with cancer.
