COMIC Des Clarke is asking the people of Glasgow to dig deep for the Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice.

It needs to raise £333,000 to complete the foundations for the new facility to be built on a hilltop site at Bellahouston Park.

The television presented and Capital FM DJ was at the St Enoch Centre to launch the Foundations Appeal Big Money Draw, which will sell tickets for the next six weeks at the shopping centre's customer service desk.

The first prize is £1000 and £200 worth of shopping vouchers donated by St Enoch Centre. Second prize is £100 and there are five third prizes of £20, plus the chance to win with the rollover jackpot.

Joined by Anne Ledgerwood, general manager of St Enoch Centre, and Heather Manson, hospice fundraiser, Des said he was delighted to be putting his heart in Glasgow's hospice.

"There are loads of ways to get involved in the appeal and buying a draw ticket is just one," he added.

"The hospice belongs to Glasgow and the whole city has the responsibility of helping them to raise the remaining funds they need. Come on Glasgow, buy your ticket."

The hospice at Carlton Place help patients with life-limiting illnesses achieve the best quality of life possible for the precious time they have remaining.

This is made possible by providing clinical, emotional, social and spiritual care and support for patients, their families, children and carers.

The brand new, purpose-built hospice at Bellahouston Park will bring 21st-century hospice care to the people of Glasgow who will benefit from our support at the most difficult times of their lives.

It will be able to offer the privacy, choice and compassionate care that all with a life limiting illness should have.

The total cost of laying the foundations is £1 million. Thanks to the generosity of supporters the hospice already have two-thirds of that amount in the bank. It needs to raise the remainder with the Foundations Appeal, backed by the Evening Times.

Supporters can put their heart in the new home. Message hearts will be taken from all over the city and placed in the foundations of the new building under the main entrance.

With this simple gesture, it will take the important memories of our current home and with them create a brand new hospice built on the support and commitment of the community.
