PUPILS from across Glasgow took a stroll in the park to show their support for a hospice.

About 2000 youngsters got into step and followed the yellow brick road in Bellahouston Park.

More than 40 schools from around the city are taking part in the Go Yellow sponsored 5K walk to raise money for The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice's Brick by Brick Appeal.

Among them was St Rose Of Lima Primary, Ruchazie, in the East End.

Head teacher Elaine Rose said: "This is the fifth year in a row we have been involved and it is always a great day for a really great cause.

"All our pupils love taking part and we are delighted to support the hospice."

The event, which is sponsored by Glasgow Taxis, is an opportunity for pupils to learn about the hospice and have fun at the same time.

Before the day, hospice staff visit schools and teach pupils about their services.

After completing the walk, the children had the opportunity to take part in a host of fun activities, including a climbing wall, cheerleading and an inflatable assault course.

Debbi Limond, community fundraiser for the hospice, said: "Each year Go Yellow has gone from strength to strength. We are confident this year's Go Yellow will be the best yet."

Stephen Flynn, vice-chairman of Glasgow Taxis, said: "The annual Go Yellow Walk in Bellahouston Park is a great initiative for young people across Glasgow to get involved in.

"Not only does the 5K walk encourage primary schools to get active, but it also gives pupils the opportunity to support a fantastic charity."

The Brick By Brick Appeal, which is backed by the Evening Times, aims to build a new hospice facility in Glasgow.

In addition to enhancing existing services for adults, the new hospice will also encompass a specialist palliative care service for young people aged 15 and above for the first time.

Planning for the new hospice, to be located on a site next to Bellahouston Park, has been approved by Glasgow City Council.
