A family will stride out across Glasgow to help say thank you to a hospice for caring for their mother.

Tracy Docherty and her family are taking take part in a new fundraising event to raise money for the Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice.

They are leading the way in the Clyde Stride, a choice of a 5K or a 10K evening walk along the riverfront.

It will also be a poignant moment for Tracy, whose mother Tess Smyth was a patient at the hospice in Carlton Place, Gorbals.

Tracy will be walking with sons Jack, 12, and Sean, 10, niece Ciara Cannon, 12, and nephew Pearce Cannon, 10.

Tracy said: "My mum was a strong Glaswegian who would be really proud of her grandkids doing this.

"It is payback for what the hospice did for her and our family."

The Clyde Stride will start from the Riverside Museum at 9pm on Saturday, May 10.

The event will be hosted by DJ Romeo and there will entertainment along the routes. Everyone taking part will be encouraged to dress up, the bolder the better.

Tracy has a tribute fund at the hospice for Tess and has taken part in the Midnight Walk in previous years.

She said: "The kids can't wait for the Clyde Stride. They will be really excited to be out and about in the city later than usual.

"I can't wait for them to experience the atmosphere.

"The Midnight Walk was always really special, everyone was in the same boat and doing it for the same reasons.

"The start could be quite emotional as you looked around and saw others who valued the hospice as much as you do.

"The kids remember their gran and this is their chance to keep her memory alive."

Tracy said bringing along her own boys and her niece and nephew in May will really bring the family together.

Participants can choose to walk 5K or 10K along Clydeside, crossing city centre bridges and, for those doing the 10K, walking past the hospice.

Registration is £20 for adults and £10 for children aged from eight to 12 years. There is a discount for a family of four with two adults and two children.

Proceeds will help fund the hospice's £15million Brick By Brick appeal, which is backed by the Evening Times, to build a new facility on a site next to Bellahouston Park.

In addition to enhancing existing services for adults, it will include a specialist palliative care service for young people aged 15 and over.
