FANS of Strictly Come Dancing are in for a special treat when ballroom favourites Kevin Clifton and Karen Haeur quickstep onto the dancefloor at the Hilton Hotel tonight.

The professionals from the BBC television series and the live tour are guests at the (A Little Less) Strictly Come Dancing night to raise funds for the Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice Brick by Brick appeal.

As well as judging, the couple who got engaged last year after Kevin proposed on stage, will be performing five dances.

"We'll be doing show dance versions of the cha cha, samba, rhumba, pase doble and jive," reveals Kevin, who debuted on Strictly Come Dancing last year with celebrity partner breakfast news presenter Susannah Reid.

"It is a lot of new choreography we've put together so we are really excited to be performing it.

"This will be the first time anyone gets to see it."

Hosted by Carol Smillie and Angus Purden, six couples from the world of celebrity and business will compete to be crowned 2014 champions.

John Ballantyne, regional director of sponsors Brookfield Multiplex, will be dancing the waltz with Maria Oakes; Clyde 1 DJ Diane Knox-Campbell will be doing the American smooth with Colin Sharp; actress Shauna Macdonald will be trying the quickstep with Bobby Cranston; Kevin McGechie, managing director of More, will be dancing the American smooth with Val McDonald; Paul Rety, director of Alea Casino, will do the Charleston with Leanne Docherty; and Andrena Murdoch, head of private banking at Clydesdale Bank, will do the cha cha with Kevin Nicoll.

"It will be fun to be on the judging side," laughs Venezuelan-born Karen, who was brought up in New York and studied dance at the legendary High School of Performing Arts.

"But I'll be fair, it will be constructive criticism.

"We're really excited to be coming to Glasgow and sharing this experience with everybody. Just dancing and having fun and doing something good for the community is wonderful."

Kevin says the couple particularly love dancing in Scotland because of the audiences.

"They were the best on the Strictly tour," he admits, "the loudest and the nuttiest, so we like the idea of going back."

Tickets are still available for the night at the Hilton that includes a drinks reception, three-course dinner, entertainment from the 18-piece Syd Lawrence Orchestra and a chance to vote for you favourite couple. Call 0141 429 9887.

The £15 million Brick by Brick appeal, backed by the Evening Times, is to create a new facility next to Bellahouston Park.
