HOLD the front page....Glasgow comic Des Clarke is backing a £15million charity appeal.

Panto star and presenter Des teamed up with Evening Times vendors to show his support for the Brick by Brick Appeal, which aims to build a new hospice at Bellahouston Park to replace the Carlton Place building, and our newspaper vendors across the city sported T-shirts and brollies and handed out leaflets and stickers to help promote and raise the profile of the cause.

The new hospice will provide 16 single rooms for in-patients, with dedicated access to their own outdoor space.

It will also, for the first time, provide care for young people aged 15 and over.

Meanwhile, the patients at the hospice got an unexpected treat from Queen's Park FC, when manager Gus Macpherson brought in a tasty donation.

Due to the club being amateur, the players don't get paid, so when anyone has to be disciplined they are fined in Terry's chocolate oranges.

l To learn more about the appeal or to make a donation, see the website www.ppwh.org.uk/brickbybrick or send an e-mail to brickbybrick@ppwh.org.uk or call on 0141 429 9861.

Send donations, made payable to The Brick By Brick Appeal, to: The Prince & Princess Of Wales Hospice, Freepost SCO1724, Glasgow, G5 9BR.
