WHO do you know who goes that extra mile to help others?

The people with the can-do attitude who put friends and colleagues first?

Are they the coach of a sports club or a parent who organises after-school activities, a pensioner who takes on housing issues or a uniformed officer who has saved lives?

The search is on to find unsung heroes in the North-West of Glasgow as the Evening Times Community Champion Awards continues in 2014. We have already rewarded more than 300 community champions from across the city in previous years.

The deadline for entries from the North-West of Glasgow is Thursday, September 11 and the awards ceremony will take place at Partick Burgh Hall on October 2, hosted by Evening Times columnist and Pop Idol winner Michelle McManus.

Kind-hearted individuals and organisations are recognised for their tireless efforts to help make a difference and we want you to tell us about people without whom Glasgow would be a poorer place.

These are the inspirational people who will be crowned our Community Champions.

The awards campaign has gone from strength to strength since being launched in autumn 2008 as a way to recognise local heroes. Such was the demand for more heroes to be honoured, we repeated the format in 2010.

In 2012 we introduced a Sport category honouring those who cultivate grassroots sports to reflect the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. How are they faring now after the soaring success of this summer's Games?

Among last year's winners were Aberlour Youthpoint Glasgow which is helping hundreds of people aged from seven to 21 through street work and support; Eric Kay, organiser of the Gibson Street Gala which attracts thousands of visitors to the area; Fozya Mahmood, a volunteer mentor with Action on Hearing Loss Scotland; and Linda Ann McConnell, the founder of the award-winning charity the Symphony of Dreams.

A list of nominees will be published in the Evening Times and on our website.

The finalists, decided by a judging panel made up of representatives from the awards partners, will take their place in our hall of fame, joining an illustrious band of local heroes who strive to improve the lives of others.

We are again working in partnership with Glasgow City Council, Glasgow Community Planning Partnership, Glasgow Housing Association, Scottish Fire and Rescue and Police Scotland, who will each assist in our search for this year's champions.

The finalists will be chosen at three events which will take place across the city: the North-East, South and North-West, from as far afield as Baillieston and Carntyne to Ruchazie, Springboig and Tollcross.
