IF the heads of Hazel Tomkins and Gillian Webster are in a spin, it's no wonder.

The 50-year-old friends from Pollokshields, who met on day one at primary school, are raising money for the Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice with a spinathon on Saturday.

It's all part of their plan to raise about £3000 for the hospice's Brick by Brick appeal, backed by the Evening Times, with a London to Paris cycle ride in May.

To get in training they women have been hitting the gym and are inviting their friends and family to come along to Parklands Country Club in Newton Mearns where the 12-hour event will take place.

"We do a lot of cycling. I started because the hospice organises a five ferries challenge every year," says Hazel, who runs a training company.

I hadn't been a cyclist before that and just really enjoyed it. That was a couple of years ago and inspired us to go on and do some other challenges and keep on cycling."

People can join in classes, between 8am and 8pm, on the day and make a donation to the hospice appeal.

Hazel's is hoping to persuade her husband Alan and daughters Emma, 24, and Lara, 17, to join in too.

A volunteer at the hospice for the past two years, Hazel is a regular visitor with her black Labrador Twiggy who is a therapet.

"Parklands opened nearly 25 years ago and and I've been a member practically since the beginning," says Hazel.

"I've done a lot of spinning there, they have amazing instructors and they are very kindly doing this for the hospice."
