TONIGHT is the night when Community Champions in the south side of the city are recognised for their sterling efforts.

At Castlemilk Community Centre, the gongs in the second round of the seventh year of the awards will be handed out to those who go that extra mile to help their friends, neighbours and family.

The finalists for the Team Award include Castlemilk Youth Complex, Car-Brae Resident's Association, Radiant and Brighter Community Interest Company and Southern Necropolis Action Group.

Those in the running for the Individual Award are Claire Dick, Edward Kirkwood, Gerry Mullen and Jade Reid.

Crossroads Youth and Community Association, Govanhill Baths Community Trust, The Hidden Gardens Trust and the South West Arts and Music Project are all hopefuls for the Public Services Award.

While Govan Community Policing Team, Pancreatic Unit at Glasgow Royal Infirmary, watch manager Paul Blackwood and watch manager John Brodie are all nominated for the Uniform Services Award.

Finalists for the Health and Wellbeing Award are Fair Deal Help Yourself Grow, Givin' it Laldie, SEAL Community Health Project and South West Community Cycles.

The Sports Award will go to either Enjoy a Ball or Glasgow Rens (Cuckoo Basketball Club).

And the Senior Award hopefuls are Anna Singleton, George Rountree, Lord John James Robert Stringfellow and Peter Davidson.

Last but not least, nominees for the Young Award are 3Bs of Castlemilk High School, Crookston Castle and St Marnock's primary schools in Communities United, Declan McCaughey, Lourdes Secondary School and Luca's Girls or Castlemilk High School.
