Only half of people who would like to be organ donors have expressed their wishes to their families, a poll has suggested.
While 82% would like to be an organ donor in the event of their death, just 50% of these have told their families their wishes, NHS Blood and Transplant said. Seven out of 10 said if they didn't know a family member wanted to be an organ donor, they would not agree to donation.
Officials have urged people to "have the conversation" with loved ones so they will know what to do. The Evening Times is campaigning for an opt-out system in Scotland.
