ENTRIES are pouring in for the Evening Times Streets Ahead awards.

We have teamed up with Clean Glasgow to recognise the sparkling achievements of individuals and groups across the city as part of our community campaign.

This year, we want to hear about other wonderful work being carried out under the Streets Ahead banner, whether it's lunchtime litter-picks, community gardens, road safety, flower-planting projects or something completely different....

Send us your stories and your photographs, and as much information as possible about your project, in time for the closing date of May 7.

We will be awarding eight prizes, including an overall winner to be announced at a special ceremony on Thursday, June 11.

There will be trophies for the best garden, best clean-up campaign, best environmental initiative, best community garden, best community initiative and best business initiative, plus a schools award.

Staff at McDonald's restaurants around Glasgow have always been big supporters of Streets Ahead.

Now one of their employees is celebrating winning a national award.

Deborah McAuley, who works in the Trongate store, has been presented with the Clean Up Scotland Hero of the Month award by national charity Keep Scotland Beautiful.

She was also highly commended this month at McDonald's UK-wide Planet Champion Awards, in recognition of the positive impact she has made on the environment and local community.

Deborah organised two major clean-up events in Glasgow, the first of which was attended by First Minister for Scotland Nicola Sturgeon.

She also volunteers for Keep Scotland Beautiful as an It's Your Neighbourhood Assessor and works as a Garden Assessor, helping local groups and schools to set up community gardens.

She said: "I have always been environmentally-conscious and the Planet Champion programme has provided me with the opportunity to incorporate this passion into my working life.

"This year I am looking for new ways to reduce energy consumption across the Glasgow McDonald's restaurants as well as working with local allotments to put the restaurant's used coffee grounds and egg shells to good use and help the gardens flourish."

The Evening Times Streets Ahead campaign is also supported by Glasgow Housing Association, ScotRail, Scottish Fire and Rescue and City Charitable Trust.
