STREETS Ahead, the Evening Times campaign which helps people improve their communities, is inspiring festive events all over the city.

Our aim is to bring neighbours together, encouraging people of all ages and from all backgrounds to work together to make their surroundings better for everyone.

With the support of Glasgow Housing Association (GHA), neighbourhoods in every corner of Glasgow are enjoying an extra special Christmas this year.

GHA organises a huge range of projects, events and forums throughout the year but at Christmas, staff in its local offices often go the extra mile to bring some sparkle to people's lives.

This year, a raft of yuletide events includes everything from community calendars and Christmas parties to handing out hampers to families in need and delivering selection boxes to local pupils.

Chairman Gordon Sloan explains: "Streets Ahead is all about people taking pride in their community and working together to make their neighbourhood a better place to live.

"That's exactly what GHA is all about and we are proud to support the campaign."

He adds: "People in GHA communities of all ages are getting involved thanks to Streets Ahead and the work of all our partners.

"But we want more people to feel inspired to have a say and play their part in what goes on in their neighbourhoods. Our Christmas activities and projects are great examples of how we can reach out to people, particularly young people, and help them feel they are part of a real community which can make great things happen."

In the south of the city, hundreds of pupils will receive a special treat this week.

GHA is working with the community to ensure every pupil receives a present in time for Christmas.

The housing association's Chair's Fund is backing the drive to deliver selection boxes to around 1600 kids.
