STREETS Ahead inspired more than 350 people to back a week-long Drumchapel Deep Clean recently.

Residents, schools, community organisations, housing associations, youth projects and GHA environmental staff joined forces to tackle litter and flytipping in the area with fantastic results.

Peter Divers, of G15 Youth Project, said: "It was a fantastic effort as so many people came together and pooled resources to make a big dent in the litter problems.

"Local councillors Paul Carey and Malcolm Balfour supported us and MSP Bill Kidd lent a hand. It was a real team effort."

Highlights included G15 members joining forces with We Step Together, a local group for people with learning difficulties, at the community centre, while training programme Right Track and arts group DRAW tackled a clean-up around Drumchapel flats.

GHA environmental staff removed dumped furniture and cleaned up green spaces.

Karen McLaughlin, GHA's housing manager for the area, said: "The clean-up was a great example of people coming together to make the whole area cleaner, greener and safer for everyone.

"It went really well, but this is just the start - there's more work to be done. We'll be taking the message into schools and will arrange more clean-ups.

"The feedback from the community was positive.

"We want people to be proud of their neighbourhoods."
