MOTHER of three Anne Scott is going on holiday in four weeks - and is still battling to lose the pregnancy pounds.
When a Glasgow personal trainer said she had devised a new fitness regime to help people lose a stone in four weeks, we set Anne the ultimate summer holiday challenge. ANN FOTHERINGHAM joined her for her first session.
IF THE thought of baring nearly all in a bikini this summer is filling you with dread, don't panic. Getting slim for summer need not be a mammoth task if you use some common sense and combine regular exercise with sensible eating.
Anne Scott is hoping to lose a stone over the next four weeks, just in time for a family holiday to Italy.
The 37-year-old, from Shawlands, Glasgow, was spurred into action when she stepped on the scales.
She says: "I am 11 1/2 stone, and would like to feel healthier and tone up a bit."
Anne is mother to Finlay, 6, Annie, 4, and one-year-old Isobel, so finding the time to stay fit and healthy is often a struggle.
"Having had three children in six years, the pounds have crept on and on," she says.
"I try to eat as healthily as possible, but I finish the kids' meals, and eat Finlay's lunchbox snacks, and my weakness is a glass of wine in the evening. So I need some motivation, and a kick up the backside, to be honest."
She has signed up for a new fitness course that aims to help you Lose A Stone In Four Weeks'.
It is run by SJ Fitness in the West End and follows on the company's success with the same format at Christmas.
Owner Sarah-Jane Hunter, 28, who worked in the fitness industry for seven years before setting up the business, says: "If you have a stone to lose, it is achievable in four weeks - if you are prepared to work hard and stick to the plan.
"But many participants are simply looking for a way to kickstart a health and fitness regime, so I would say most lose between half a stone and a stone in the four weeks, and all lose inches from different parts of their bodies.
"The idea is they will then continue with the good habits and reach the weight that is healthy for them."
The course, which costs £50, includes a full fitness assessment, a one to one with the fitness team, a weight management diet plan, a weekly inch loss exercise programme, an exercise DVD to do at home, and one of the SJ Fitness classes per week.
Priced separately, the normal cost would be £140.
"Basically, there is no excuse not to exercise with this plan - there are lots of options in there," says Sarah-Jane. "It's suitable for beginners and regular exercisers."
Anne had her first session this week and she says she found it tough going. "I do not do any exercise other than walking to nursery and back a couple of times a week," she says.
"So it was hard work and I felt a bit sore the next day. But I felt I had a good workout. I have also followed the programme on the DVD at home and am trying my best to stick to the eating plan suggestions.
"I am determined to do it, and am looking forward to it."
