POLICE have had a "good response" from the public after releasing CCTV images of two men they want to trace over two attempted child abductions in Glasgow.

A girl and a boy - both aged seven - narrowly escaped after they were targeted within 40 minutes of each other on Monday.

Officers at first believed the cases were linked but are now treating them as separate incidents.

In the first incident, at 3.05pm, a stranger grabbed a girl from behind as she stood in Renfrew Street, at the back of Glasgow Dental Hospital.

She broke free and ran to a relative's house to raise the alarm.

Around 3.45pm, a man targeted a boy as he waited for a bus in Great Western Road with his childminder and her children.

The boy was grabbed from behind and held back as he tried to board a bus. The childminder helped him escape.

One image issued by police is of a man walking in Renfrew Street at 3.09pm.

The other is of a man walking in Great Western Road at 12.50pm and later, at 4.20pm, near Hubbards pub, which he visited on Monday.

Detective Inspector Andy McWilliam, leading the investigation, appealed to the men in the photos to come forward.

He said: "We've had a good response from the public and the investigation is progressing."

Anyone who saw these men on Monday or knows their identities should call 0141 532 3036 or Crime-stoppers on 0800 555 111.
