CELTIC face being without centre-half Efe Ambrose for their Champions League last-16 showdown with Juventus after Nigeria qualified for the African Cup of Nations final.

The Parkhead stopper played for his country in their 4-1 over Mali last night, and is expected to play in the final against Burkina Faso on Sunday.

That would effectively rule him out of at least a starting spot against the Italian cracks on Tuesday night, as he would only arrive back in Scotland on Monday at the very earliest.

Ther Super Eagles' goals came from Elderson Echiejile, Brown Ideye, Momo Sissoko and Ahmed Muso. Cheick Diarra netted a consolation for Mali.

Ambrose wasn't the only Celtic player in action on international duty last night.

As well as Scott Brown, Charlie Mulgrew and Kris Commons making appearances for Scotland, Joe Ledley came through Wales' win over Austria unscathed.

Chris Coleman's men won 2-1 courtesy of goals from Spurs' Gareth Bale and Burnley ace Sam Vokes.

Mikael Lustig suffered a night to forget for Sweden, with the Celtic full-back turning the ball into his own net in a 3-2 defeat to Argentina.

The game was only three minutes old when the Parkhead ace deflected Gonzalo Higuain's shot in.

Jonas Olsson levelled for the hosts 15 minutes later, but goals from Sergio Aguero and Higuain made Rasmus Elm's 95th-minute strike meaningless.

Elsewhere, England recorded their first win over Brazil for 23 years after a 2-1 victory at Wembley.

Manchester United's Wayne Rooney had put Roy Hodgson's side into the lead on 27 minutes before Fred equalised for the Samba Boys three minutes after the break.

But England were not to be denied and it took a spectacular effort from Frank Lampard to make the difference.

Elsewhere, Northern Ireland drew 0-0 away to Malta and Republic of Ireland secured a 2-0 victory over Poland in Dublin courtesy of strikes from Ciaran Clark and Wesley Hoolahan.

And it was the Barca boys to the rescue for Spain as a Cesc Fabregas goal and a Pedro brace was enough to beat Uruguay 3-1 as Holland and Italy drew 1-1.
