The position was vacated by Garry Parker when he followed previous boss,Neil Lennon out of Parkhead at the end of last season.

John Collins has already been appointed as assistant manager, with John Kennedy promoted from his work with the Development Squad to assist with the coaching.

Lunov will be with the squad when they travel to Poland tomorrow for Wednesday's Champions League qualifier against Legia Warsaw.

He worked with Deila for three years at Stromsgodset, and, like the former school-teacher manager, 31-year-old Lunov comes from an academic background.

He studied Science and Football at John Moores University in Liverpool, then went on to work on video analysis for Everton.

This is an area in which Deila believes he can be of great assistance to his players, and said: "Haakon has extreme expertise in analysis.

"He's ambitious and very concerned with development. We have been looking for someone like him and we now have a great resource."

Lunov is confident his unique skill set will transfer well to Celtic said: "There's a need for graduates in football.

"In most big clubs in Europe, there's a mix of coaches with a playing and academic background."
