Celtic skipper Scott Brown believes that James Forrest's shocking miss at McDiarmaid Park on Friday night has already been forgotten about by the winger.

The Scotland internationalist scorned a glorious snatch an unlikely winner for Celtic against a St Johnstone side that had put them under considerable pressure for much of the game.

But after rounding the Saints keeper, Forrest fluffed his shot and missed what was effectively an open-goal.

"It wasn't James' fault because the pitch caused it," said Brown, echoing Ronny Deila's take on the gaffe.

"If you look at it, he's taken a great touch and his pace has taken him away from the defender.

"He's rounded the keeper to get a tap in, but the pitch was so bad he's had it bobble up and hit him on the knee.

"He's disappointed, but the lads are not holding anything against him.

"He's outstanding because he beats people like they're not there and creates chances for us.

"It doesn't bother anyone, other people might make a big deal of it, but we know he's a top player and what he gives to us. That's what matters."

Meanwhile, Brown has also backed Charlie Mulgrew to have no problem acclimatising to the demands of international football after being drafted into Gordon Strachan's squad today.

"Can Charlie come back in for Scotland? He could play 90 minutes no bother because he's naturally fit," said the midfielder.

"What he's got a lot of is talent, he's got a great brain and understands the game so that would get him through anything.

"He can play in a few positions, I'm sure it will be hard work for the gaffer to pick his squad.

"We have a great squad and I'm sure no matter who the 23 or 24 bodies he chooses it will be exciting times.

"The Ireland game at Celtic Park was hard, it was full on for the 90 minutes. It was a real battle.

"Charlie and I played well together that night, we understand each other and it's a good combination."

Brown himself is now taking a break having turned down the chance of a holiday last week in order that he could play in Perth on Friday night.

"I've got a week off so I'm going to go away, get a bit of sun and hopefully not burn too much," he said."I will be available for the next game.

"I am enjoying playing and when you fit and have no niggles you want to play as much as you can."
