RONNY DEILA believes Celtic and John Guidetti are a match made in Paradise after the striker opened his Hoops account last night.

The on-loan Manchester City forward smashed home his first goal for SPFL Premiership champions in a 3-0 home League Cup victory over Hearts.

The Swede then went on to win his side a penalty in the second half before being substituted off to a standing ovation by the 14,000 home fans.

Bhoys boss Deila reckons Parkhead is the perfect place for the talented 22-year-old to rekindle a career which has been hampered by injury.

When asked if Celtic is the ideal club for Guidetti, his manager said: "I think so, yes. I'm delighted for John. We need strikers who score goals and he's hungry for that.

"He's a fantastic person with a great personality, so I think we'll see more goals from him.

"We have to remember he hasn't played in a first team for two years so he needs time.

"But he's working hard. We'll push him and get the best out of him.

"He was really looking forward to playing here and that's why we brought him to Celtic. He has a big talent.

"His energy is unbelievable, but he has much more to go to reach his potential. We saw what he did in Holland when they had a long season with big games, I think he scored something like 23 goals.

"We have a lot of expectation for him. If he can do it in Holland he can do it in Scotland."

A second-half penalty from Kris Commons and an Adam Eckersley own goal helped secure the Hoops' safe passage into the next round and earn them a home tie against Glasgow rivals Partick Thistle.

While many Celtic fans would have been relishing the prospect of squaring up to Old Firm adversaries Rangers - who will play St Johnstone at Ibrox - Deila is happy just to have another cup clash under the Parkhead floodlights.

He said: "We have Thistle which will be a tough match but it's good that it is at home.

"We would love to play with our fans in our stadium. You saw against Hearts that the players enjoyed expressing themselves in front of them.

"It was a very good performance and what I've been delighted with over the last two games is a team that works hard. We do it together.

"We look a lot stronger now and more complete."

Centre-half Jason Denayer was substituted at the break after taking a knock, with Deila adding: "He was injured but we were thinking of taking him off anyway. We were told if he gets one more tackle he'll get a red.

"I hope it's a small injury, but he was going to go off anyway."
