IZAGUIRRE (6) Caught napping at the first goal. His usually reliable crossing was poor. Squandered a good second-half chance by blazing over the bar from 12 yards.
VAN DIJK (6) A difficult night for the Dutchman. Went for the same high ball as Mouyokolo on several occasions. Gave the ball away in the build-up to the second goal.
MULGREW (7) Menacing going forward. Unfortunately, he was not so impressive carrying out his defensive duties. Will not enjoy watching the first goal again. Unlucky, though, with an acrobatic second-half effort on goal.
MOUYOKOLO (6) A European debut to forget. Rarely looked comfortable. Failed to intimidate the opposition. Was bullied off the ball far too easily.
LUSTIG (6) Out of sorts. Struggled to contain the Shakhter wide men. Limped off in the second half and was replaced by Matthews.
BROWN (7) Hustled and harried in midfield. But he was unable to deliver any defence-splitting passes to his frontmen. Became increasingly peripheral as the game progressed.
COMMONS (8) The one shaft of light on a dark night. Creative, dynamic, probing and willing to have a go from distance. Unlucky with 35-yard first-half rocket that smashed off the bar. Celtic's best player.
LEDLEY (7) Worked tirelessly in midfield, but his distribution was poor at times. The Welshman made a crucial intervention near the end that prevented the home team from scoring a third goal.
FORREST (6) Not performing at his best at the moment. Struggled to take on and beat his man. Having said that, he did well to find space for free header in the second half, but his effort was easily saved by the keeper.
SAMARAS (6) A willing runner down the flanks. Dropped back and helped the Scottish champions out defensively on numerous occasions. Held the ball up well going forward. Tried to spark team into life but often caught in possession.
MATTHEWS (5) Replaced Lustig at left-back. Failed to make a significant impact.
