Other than that he did not have a huge amount to do.

MATTHEWS (6) Back into the starting line up after being rested and asked to keep an eye on James McFadden.

WANYAMA (6) Skipper for the night but was left exposed for the opener when Nicky Law was able to dance around him before curling the ball toward Chris Humphrey at the back post.

ROGNE (6) Started the game with Victor Wanyama partnering him in defence. Found Higdon a bit of a handful.

IZAGUIRRE (5) Relatively subdued. Didn't get up and down the flank the way he can. Caught out at the back post for both Motherwell goals.

FORREST (7) Tried in fits and bursts to get Celtic moving. Did well to get the cross in for Samaras who scored to draw Celtic level.

KAYAL (6) Full of industry and running but found the going tough against an organised Motherwell midfield.

ROGIC (6) Put in a decent shift and showed some nice touches. Made way for Joe Ledley early in the second period as Celtic tried to get back into the game.

SAMARAS (7) Back in the side for the first time since January and found himself back among the goals. Fine headed goal to mark his return from injury.

COMMONS (6) Rounded Randolph at one point after being put through by Stokes but was put off by the big keeper.

STOKES (5) Not one to remember. Sclaffed a couple of shots and found himself offside a few times. Couldn't get going.

LEDLEY (5) Arrived as Celtic were trying to find their way back into the game.

AMBROSE (5) Took over from Kayal as Celtic re-jigged things.

HOOPER (4) Off the bench for the latter stages but couldn't find a goal.
