GORDON (8) Fourth emergency service back to his best.

Magnificent reaction save from Icardi's point-blank header then D'Ambrosio and Hernanes blasts when game still goalless. Even better stop when Icardi got through after break. Booked for delaying goal kick before finally beaten by Guarin's howitzer.

MATTHEWS (6) Turned an ankle before he'd even touched ball. Soldiered on, but caught wrong side of play too often, and booked for foul after being skinned by pace of Palacio.

DENAYER (6) Needed every yard of his pace to cover Inter's many breaks. His confidence not helped by losing mentor, Van Dijk, so early

VAN DIJK (3) San Siro shocker from man being watched by so many scouts. Mis-control within opening 10 seconds to allow Inter in. Unlucky to be booked for challenge on Palacio, but then naive challenge on Icardi in wide area to collect second yellow with only 36 minutes gone.

IZAGUIRRE (5) Under orders not to be as attack-minded as usual. But, exposed too often defensively as Inter targeted his area. Booked for off-the-ball foul on Palacio.

BROWN (7) Though struggled to impose himself on game in way he can, used his vast experience to keep others up to the task, especially when numerically disadvantaged.

BITTON (7) Diligently sat deep to allow Brown to go forward. Unruffled by all Inter threw at him. Booked late on for dissent.

MACKAY-STEVEN (6) Golden opportunity when sent through after seven minutes, but shot at keeper. Pace made him a real threat, so disappointed to be sacrificed to allow Ambrose to come on after down to 10 men.

JOHANSEN (7) Ran himself to a standstill, then grabbed second wind and ran a bit more. Main support for Guidetti and Forrest.

ARMSTRONG (6) Covered every blade on his side of the pitch. Decent claim for penalty when bundled over in box by Santon, but unable to repeat heroics of first leg.

GUIDETTI (6) First European start for Hoops, and worked the disjointed Inter back line hard until replaced by Forrest.

SUBS:

AMBROSE (6) On for Mackay-Steven to fill hole after Van Dijk's dismissal. Unusually steady.

FORREST (4) Sent on in place of Guidetti to provide fresh legs and pace as out-ball for final half hour, but given little to chase.

COMMONS (4) Final Hoops sub, for Armstrong. Went for Hollywood goal from 35 yards, but shot lacked fizz. Booked for comments to ref after final whistle.
