CELTIC captain Scott Brown was left behind in Austria last night following his side's 2-2 draw with Red Bull Salzburg.

Restrictions on night flights in and out of the local airport meant the club's private charter had to be airborne by 10.55pm local time.

Brown - who scored Celtic's second goal in their opening Europa League group stage tie - was randomly selected for the post-match doping test. Aleksander Tonev was also required to provide a urine sample.

But, while the Bulgarian - who replaced Kris Commons for the final 15 minutes of the game - was able to oblige and got to the airport to join his team-mates, club officials, corporate guests and press on the flight back to Glasgow, Brown could not provide the sample requested as he was dehydrated from playing his first full 90 minutes since returning from over two months out with a hamstring tear.

A member of the club's backroom staff remained in Salzburg with Brown, and arrangements were made for overnight hotel accommodation and flights back to Scotland today.

Celtic play Motherwell in the Premiership at 3pm on Sunday, and the captain is expected to lead out his side in the match at Parkhead.
