CELTIC star Callum McGregor believes he is ready to fulfil his dream of playing world champions Germany.

Joachim Low's side stormed their way into the history books on July 13 by defeating Argentina 1-0 in a showpiece final at the Maracana.

McGregor watched the drama in Brazil unfold on television, with the prospect of facing the Germans at that point bordering on fantasy.

The midfielder had not long returned from a loan spell at Notts County and had not even made his top team debut for the Hoops as he entered the last year of his deal at Parkhead. But after scoring in his first game against KR Reykjavik, the academy graduate has gone on to be one of the few glimpses of light in a gloomy start to the campaign, also bagging goals away to Legia Warsaw, then NK Maribor in the club's Champions League play-off first leg.

And now that his efforts in green and white have earned him a call-up in dark blue, McGregor is confident in his own abilities if Gordon Strachan picks him to play in Dortmund.

When asked if he thought he'd be lining up against Germany while watching them shine on the samba stage, he admitted: "No, not at all. It seemed a million miles away at the time.

"But football is a strange game, it can move so quickly. I'm delighted to be part of the Scotland squad and to play against the world champions would be a dream come true.

"I think I have the confidence and belief to play against them. You never know your limits until you are not able to do something.

"I've had a great start this season. I have played and scored in the Champions League.

"So that gives me a lot of confidence that I can go and play at that level and I just think to myself, 'Why can't I?' I'm really looking forward to it."
