KELVIN Wilson has moved closer to an England call-up for the World Cup qualifiers against San Marino and Montenegro.

The Celtic defender has impressed national team boss Roy Hodgson with his performances in the Champions League.

And, with defensive problems for the upcoming internationals – a week on Friday and the following Tuesday – Wilson is keeping his fingers crossed he will be included when the squad is announced tomorrow.

Fraser Forster is also hopeful he will be recalled after dropping out for last month's friendly against Brazil, having picked up a neck injury during the mid-season break.

Gary Hooper Is also knocking on the door, but may have to wait a little longer after Wilson stole the show when Hodgson attended Celtic's first-leg last-16 tie against Juventus.

The England boss is on the lookout for replacement central defenders as Phil Jagielka and Chris Smalling are both injured and John Terry has quit international football.

Hodgson could recall Rio Ferdinand, who has not played for England since June 2011. But given the back-story over his absence, that would be controversial.

Joleon Lescott and Gary Cahill are expected to be the first-choice centre-backs for the double-header.

Others in the frame include Newcastle's uncapped Steven Taylor, Spurs' Michael Dawson and Steven Caulker, plus Stoke's Ryan Shawcross.

But former Under-20 cap Wilson – who has the advantage over most of the aforementioned in being a regular starter for his club – is being given serious consideration. Mean-while, Hoops team-mate Mikael Lustig expects to be ready to return to the side this weekend after recovering from the thigh injury which has kept him out of action since the first leg against Juventus on February 12.

Adam Matthews is still receiving treatment for a hamstring strain, but Lustig and Emilio Izaguirre could both return to face Aberdeen.

The Swede said: "I've got back to fitness much quicker than I thought and I'm back in full training. I feel good. I ran at full speed and can go at full speed.

"Celtic have a match on Saturday which I am hopeful of playing in."

That would clear the way for Lustig to report for international duty next week, with a crunch game against the Republic of Ireland in Sweden a week on Friday.

Lustig said: "To be honest, when I got the injury I wasn't hopeful at all of being able to play against the Irish.

"But it has gone much better than I thought.

"A week ago I was still limping but the injury has got better very quickly."
