CELTIC 1 AJAX 0 (Mar 1971)

Jimmy Johnstone bundled home the only goal of the second leg of the European Cup quarter-final at Hampden just before the half-hour mark, but it was not enough to prevent a 3-1 aggregate defeat for Jock Stein's side. Celtic had lost the previous year's final to Feyenoord and Ajax extended the Dutch domination as they went on to win the first of three consecutive titles.

CELTIC 2 AJAX 2 (Sep 1982)

Celtic and Ajax shared four goals inside the first half hour of a Parkhead classic in the European Cup first round, first leg. Jesper Olsen gave the visitors the lead with an early solo goal but Charlie Nicholas equalised from the spot after Johan Cruyff had brought down Tommy Burns following good skill from the future Celtic boss. Cruyff's wonderful cushioned lay-off set up Soren Lerby to chip Pat Bonner but Frank McGarvey levelled after David Moyes and Nicholas had headed a goal-kick back into the Ajax half. Celtic went on to record a famous win in Amsterdam.

CELTIC 0 AJAX 1 (Aug 2001)

Celtic qualified for the group stage of the Champions League despite a nervy performance at Parkhead. Brazilian Wamberto netted on the half-hour mark following a one-two with future Rangers striker Shota Arveladze, but Celtic held on to their one-goal aggregate lead after Rab Douglas saved well from Ajax substitute Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
