In the other half of the city this week, we have seen Ally McCoist taken away from managerial duties at Rangers after a long saga over his resignation.

The goings on at Ibrox is something which hasn't been too much of a concern to Celtic in recent times with the teams playing in different divisions.

And even though both halves of the Old Firm are set to play each other in the League Cup semi-final on February 1, I don't think the departure of Ally will make any difference to Ronny Deila's preparations for the tie.

Ally's time had run its course for whatever reason, and unless they change things dramatically, it looks like it will be Kenny McDowall and Gordon Durie in charge.

But it won't matter to Celtic. Whether it is Ally, Kenny or whoever that is standing in the Ibrox team's dug out at Hampden, the key thing is that they don't approach the game in the wrong manner.

You still have to go into an Old Firm game in the right frame of mind. As much as Celtic will feel they are strong favourites, history tells you that teams need to be very careful, regardless of what has happened in the build up.

Ronny will make sure he concentrates on his own players. If things go to plan in the January window and the club are doing well in the Premiership, then that is the only thing the Norwegian will be concerning himself with.

The approach to the game from Rangers may be different with a new man in charge, that remains to be scene. But the fact Ally won't be the Rangers manager won't take anything away from what will be a landmark game for both teams.
