It's time for numbers 10-6 as we move closer to revealing the identity of the top Celt...

10 BERTIE AULD

The Celtic Years: 1955/61-1965/71.

Appearances: 279.

Career highlight: Lisbon, May 1967.

Show us your medals: One European Cup, six League titles, four Scottish Cups, five League Cups.

So what makes you a legend? One of the great characters of Parkhead folklore, it was Bertie who started singing the Celtic Song in the tunnel as Jock Stein's side lined up in the tunnel before playing Inter Milan in the European Cup Final.

The midfielder had two spells at Celtic, and it was his second stint at the club where he performed a pivotal role in the side that went on to win nine titles on the trot.

His partnership with Bobby Murdoch in the middle of the park was one of the most successful in European football.

In 1970, as Celtic beat Leeds United in the semi-final of the European Cup, it was the performance of Murdoch and Auld that nullified the celebrated Leeds midfield of Scots legend Billy Bremner and Johnny Giles.

9 PATSY GALLACHER

The Celtic Years: 1911-1925.

Appearances: 464.

Career highlight: His goal in the 1925 Scottish Cup final: a dribble, a ton of tricks and, finally, when it looked like he had lost the ball, he fell backwards with it between his feet and somersaulted into the net.

Show us your medals: Six League titles, four Scottish Cups.

So what makes you a legend? There will be few Celtic fans alive who can claim to have seen Patsy Gallacher kick a ball, yet his name has long lived on.

There is an argument to suggest that he could be seen as the greatest-ever Celtic player given his skill and finishing – he netted 192 goals for the club.

There is a story that claims the late Jimmy McGrory once said he had never seen a player who could hold a candle to Gallacher – and that included Jimmy 'Jinky' Johnstone.

The grandfather of Scotland internationalist Kevin Gallacher, Patsy represented both the Republic and Northern Ireland and also once wore a Rangers shirt in a benefit match – only to reveal after the game when he hauled it off that he was wearing Hoops underneath.

8 HENRIK LARSSON

The Celtic years: 1997-2004.

Appearances: 314.

Career highlight: Winning the Golden Boot in 2000-01 with 53 goals.

Show us your medals: Four League titles, two Scottish Cups, two League Cups.

So what makes you a legend? A bargain buy from Feyenoord by Wim Jansen, Henrik Larsson is revered not only for the volume of goals he scored for Celtic – 242 – but for the manner in which he lit up the club.

It was his unselfishness, his energy, his lethal finishing and his ability to be an all-round team player that made him such a favourite with the support.

He netted two perfect headers in the Uefa Cup final in Seville in 2003 only to end up on the losing team. His time at Celtic was always met with suspicion that his talents shone brighter because he played in a 'poor' league.

His move from Celtic to Barcelona – where he won a European Cup medal – and then to a short spell at Manchester United, silenced the snipers.

7 BOBBY LENNOX

The Celtic Years: 1961-Mar 1978, Sep 1978-1980.

Appearances: 571.

Career highlight: Winning the European Cup in 1967.

Show us your medals: One European Cup, 11 League titles, eight Scottish Cups, five League Cups.

So what makes you a legend? The haul of medals enjoyed by Lennox is the highest tally for any Celtic player, which is quite a feat.

He is also the club's second highest scorer of all time with 273 goals to his name.

Lennox is one of the few players to have netted in a Scotland victory over England at Wembley, scoring one of the goals in the famous 3-2 victory in 1967 against the world champions.

He became the first Celtic player to score at Wembley, yet won just 10 caps for his country.

Singled out for mentions by legendary figures in the game such as Bobby Charlton and Alfredo di Stefano, Lennox was an icon of his time with his pace and lethal finishing.

He played in both of Celtic's European Cup finals, the 1967 win over Inter Milan and the defeat by Feyenoord in 1970.

6 JOCK STEIN

The Celtic Years: 1951-57 (player), 1965-1978 (manager).

Appearances: 147.

Career highlight: Captaining Celtic to their first League Championship after a 16-year drought.

Show us your medals: One Coronation Cup, one League title, one Scottish Cup.

So what makes you a legend? Will always be revered for the contribution he made to the club as a manager, but his playing career was also significant.

In 1953 he captained Celtic to the Coronation Cup success when they unexpectedly beat Arsenal, Manchester United and then Hibs to become unofficial champions of Britain.

The following year he captained the Hoops to their first League Championship since 1938 and first League and Scottish Cup double since 1914.

Stein retired formally in January, 1957, as an ankle injury in the League Cup against Rangers led to the end of his playing career, and he wore the Hoops for the last time against Coleraine in a close-season match in 1956.
