Before the transfer window opened I didn't think it was imperative for Celtic to add to their squad.

I do think they are strong enough to maintain their domestic position at the top of the Premiership table, although I did think it was important to try and keep the likes of Virgil van Dijk and Kris Commons at the club until the end of the season at least.

The window is open until Monday night so, of course, there could still be some movement, although it appears a Celtic bid for Dundee United midfielder Stuart Armstrong has been knocked back by the Taysiders.

But I think if the deadline passes without any bodies in or out it is not a great concern.

The Gary Mackay-Steven thing could be something that Celtic seek to explore and bring the lad in before the summer, but even then I am not sure that there is any real urgency to do so. Given the fact that he would be cup-tied it would be a case of bringing him in and bedding him into the team.

It would maybe help in terms of planning for next season, but I don't think there is a pressing need for it to go through.

The one that I would have liked to have seen sorted out was the situation with John Guidetti.

He seems to be hedging his bets and waiting to see what transpires between now and the summer, but the fact is that Celtic can at least plan for having him between now and the end of the season.

His goals have dried up, but we have seen a glimpse of his capabilities and he would be a strong signing. The issue now is clearly whether or not he wants to stay and play in Scotland.

But I do think that the squad is in good enough shape to cope between now and the end of the season.

I still think that it would be ideal to get the Commons situation sorted out and, again, it is something that could change quickly over the weekend if an offer were to come in for him.

I've said before, and I'll say again, that it makes sense to try and find some common ground between the player and the club.
