STUART APPLEBY is looking forward to Christmas, but asked Davie: What are the challenges of playing so many games over the festive period?

"As a player, I always regarded it as simply part and parcel of my job. It wasn't something I ever thought about.

"When I was in Scotland the big day for us was New Year's Day, when we traditionally had the Old Firm game to look forward to, and there would be no festivities until after that - and the result dictated if it was a celebration or a case of drowning your sorrows.

"In England, Boxing Day was always massive, with huge crowds coming out for games."
