SOME Celtic supporters got more excited after their team's 3-0 win over Hearts on Wednesday night than during it.

With Rangers having defeated Falkirk the night before, many fans were salivating at the prospect of the Old Firm being drawn together in the League Cup quarter-final.

That would have given us the first match between the clubs for two-and-a-half years.

In the end the cup draw did produce a Glasgow derby - but it is Partick Thistle, not Gers, the Hoops will face at Parkhead next month, while Ally McCoist's side will host St Johnstone.

For me, a home draw was what every Celtic fan should have been hoping for, regardless of the opponent. I don't agree with the idea of wanting to play Rangers.

The draw is the draw and you deal with it accordingly.

Why talk about a game that may never materialise? If and when both teams play each other will be the time to look forward to it.

People have waited for an Old Firm game long enough. Holding off a bit longer won't do any harm.

The most important thing is trying to win the cup. Celtic played very well against Hearts and have a good chance of winning a cup that hasn't been in the Parkhead trophy room since 2009.

Whether they play Rangers on the way or not wouldn't make it any more or less special.

Ronny Deila and his team have to concentrate on getting past a tricky Thistle side before fans get excited about anyone else.
