KRIS COMMONS' contract saga has emerged again this week - and the signs don't look too promising.
The player seems to be unhappy with the length of deal offered to him, while Ronny Deila says that claims of the midfielder just being offered a one-year contract are untrue.
While I don't think it has become a distraction for the club, even though Commons has spoken out about it, hand on heart I think he will leave Celtic next month.
We are now well into December. Yes, there may be some negotiations still going on and there may be room to compromise a bit, but my gut feeling is if the deal was to get over the line it would have happened by now.
Kris also isn't playing regularly and that will have an impact. At his age that's what he needs. He has to be playing week in, week out, if he is to stay in top shape.
It's up to the player, of course. He will be able to sign a pre-contract with someone else or move in the window, and that's what I think will happen.
Let's not forget in all of this, though. Kris has been a good servant for Celtic. He has scored a lot of important goals for the club, especially on the European stage.
Stefan Johansen is keeping him out of the team just now and he does bring a lot of energy to him, but Commons probably has more goals in him.
You could make a case for either of them. But given Stefan is a bit younger, he may be looked upon as the more valuable asset out of the two.
Celtic maybe feel that, at 31, the deal they have on the table for Kris is all they are willing to offer.
I think there would need to be a change in Celtic's position if there was to be a turnaround by Kris, but unless that happens, I believe the player will probably leave.
