I also think that whether or not the player agrees a contract extension with the club is an irrelevance because I don't think he would leave in the current transfer window.

At the very least, I suspect he will remain at Parkhead until the end of the season.

Celtic are not in a situation whereby they need to sell anyone. They are in a good place at the minute, both on and off the park.

Hooper is also still tied up to Celtic so it is not as though he would be going for nothing in the summer.

The same goes for Victor Wanyama.

The club are doing the right thing by trying to keep them on long deals, but ultimately it is the players who will have the final say.

If they are determined to move on, then it is highly unlikely that Celtic would be able to offer the levels of salary that will be available south of the border.

But, as I say, I don't think that is something they will have to fret about until the end of the season.

Neil Lennon's remit this week will be to keep his players ticking over while casting his eye over Tom Rogic, the 20-year-old Australian midfielder and Rami Gershon, the Israeli centre-back who has signed a six-month loan deal. It is a chance to have a look at these players without any real commitment.

With Efe Ambrose away on Africa Cup of Nations duty and Kelvin Wilson suspended, Gershon may come into the picture for Celtic over the next few weeks.

The player himself will have something to prove since he has been struggling to get a game for Standard Liege.

This week in Marbella will give Lennon the opportunity to take a look at him and see what his fitness levels are like and whether or not he would be able to go straight in.

I also think that simply being away with your team-mates 24-hours a day fosters a togetherness in the squad.

One of Celtic's strengths is the team spirit that seems to be there and a break away with the sun on your back can be a tremendous way to revitalise the squad.

It really does recharge the batteries and, with the club still in four competitions, it gives them an opportunity to shake off any knocks and niggles and get ready to go again.

I am not too sure there will be any further additions to the squad at this time.

I think it can be difficult to unearth players of real quality, players that you envisage would be able to come in and make a difference to the team at this stage.

Most business conducted tends to be pre-season agreements with players committing to joining a club in the summer.

You also have the added complication that players could be cup-tied for European games, which could be an issue for Celtic as they look to take on Juventus in the Champions League next month.

This week will allow Lennon to take things at a slightly slower pace, although I do think work will be starting now behind the scenes on the preparations for that very tie.
