DAVIE HAY: Question time

WHEN all the current talk is the need for a rest, Alan Johnston from Partick wonders how Davie and his former team-mates used to cope with seasons which could stretch to more than 70 games.

We never even thought about it, maybe because we were too busy playing.

Seriously, though, you wonder what all the fuss is all about these days when you consider most big clubs have sports scientists, fitness coaches, nurtritionalists and better training facilities and pitches.

Players also have better equipment and are part of bigger squads.

I suppose in my playing days, there were fewer European games and internationals, so the intensity of it all might have been a bit less.

But, really, we just wanted to play – and the more games the better.
