THE long-awaited Commonwealth Games are now up and running.

And didn't Celtic Park look magnificent as it played host to the Opening Ceremony?

It came across on TV as a great, multi-purpose venue, and it was clear so much work had gone into transforming it for this great occasion.

The atmosphere, even watching at home, was terrific, and all the years of organisation really paid off.

Everyone wants us to be proud of the way we stage the Games, and this was a good start, even if not all aspects of the opening show hit the mark.

Legacy is the buzzword surrounding the Games, and Celtic Park will be part of this as there has been so much work done to improve the stadium, especially at the entrance way.

The East End has benefited from massive investment in infrastructure, housing and facilities.

It is unrecognisable from the place I used to arrive at as a kid on the No.64 bus to Auchenshoogle. It's going to be an exciting 10 days. But, we can't take our eye off the other important event taking place at the same time - the Champions League qualifiers.
