I always knew how special Jock Stein was

I HAVE been told by those lucky enough to have attended an advance screening of the documentary on Jock Stein, which will be broadcast on BBC Alba on Monday night, that it's a terrific watch.

Some people wonder if the passing of time has made us appreciate Jock all the more.

But, for me, that's not possible - because I knew all along how special he was.

I still consider myself highly fortunate to have worked under him, and appreciate how influential he was in making me the player and manager I was.

Recently, some of my former team-mates have had a bit of a go at him for the way he ruled. That's sad, because he is not here to defend himself.

Besides, none of us would have achieved what we did if it was not for Jock.
