I understand he had surgery in France this week and it remains to be seen just how long he is will be sidelined.
Having come to the club following a difficult couple of seasons in which he spent 17 months out with a cruciate knee ligament injury, he will be gutted at finding himself back in the treatment room.
It is the side of football that people do not really see. It is all very well when you are playing every week and playing well, but it can be difficult when you find yourself out of the game and looking at a long road back to fitness.
For a guy like that, who has come in on a one-year deal with a point to prove after missing a huge chunk of his career to injury, it must seem like a real setback.
There are other options available to the manager in that position but I do feel for the lad as he has barely had his foot in the door.
You also have the issue of settling into a new city and it may be that he returns home now for a period of time.
