I was interested to read in SportTimes that Neil Lennon was ready to hold talks with Al-Ittihad in Saudi Arabia over becoming their new manager.

Being honest, I think if he does end up getting the job out in Jeddah he will feel in his heart of hearts he wants to be managing down south.

What he did in Scotland merited him being in with a shout at jobs in England, with the vacant posts at Bolton and Fulham being the two obvious opportunities for him.

Maybe because he's not been caught up in the managerial roundabout down there, due to spending his time in Scotland, it has kept him out of the thoughts of chairmen in the English leagues, despite his success at Celtic.

But I think he's more than capable of doing a job at those clubs.

I'm surprised he's not had a job yet, but it will come. He's a top manager.

It's easy for people to say he did the job at Celtic with Rangers out of the way for the majority of it, but his qualities go far beyond that.

He developed and matured into a fine coach who had the respect of his players, and, Rangers or no Rangers, he still managed to get the club into the Champions League twice as well as into the last 16 once.

After a shaky start with the Scottish Cup semi-final defeat to Ross County back in April 2010, he recovered to become a very good Celtic manager.

That was proved no end last season when he managed to win his third Celtic league title as boss while only losing one game.

No matter where he ends up, I'm confident Neil will make a success of it, just as he did during his time at Parkhead.
