RONNY DEILA has described the emergence of Callum McGregor since the start of the season as like having a new signing.

With the important goals the 19-year-old has scored, it's one which might have saved - and can make - the club a lot of money.

If ever the benefit of letting a young player go out on loan was shown, it is with Callum.

That year at Notts County not only allowed him to play regularly at a level higher than Development football, but would also have brought home to him what it is he has at Celtic.

I have been impressed with the way the young lad has taken his chance, though I'd say his goals total has been more eye-catching than his overall performances and he still has some way to go.

The fact Ronny Deila has picked him for every game shows how much faith he has in Callum.

This first became obvious when Ronny took more experienced players off in Reykjavik and kept Callum on, a decision which was rewarded when the kid scored the only goal that night.

The thing about young players is that they find consistency the hardest aspect of the game to master.

I remember when I was 19 and breaking into the side at full-back, Jock Stein left me out after few matches.

I was disappointed because I thought I was doing okay. But, in hindsight, he was protecting me at a time when my development needed it most.

Callum has found a role that suits him in the system Ronny likes to play, and he is showing a lot of maturity in the way he does what is being asked of him.

The goals are the big bonus, and long may they continue to come.
