IT is sad that that Police Scotland are having to investigate an alleged racist incident during in Celtic's match with St Mirren on Saturday.

Virgil van Dijk has made a complaint to the authorities that is now being looked into.

It is the second allegation we have had in Scottish football in a few weeks following the incident between Aberdeen defender Shay Logan and Celtic's Alexander Tonev at Parkhead.

We will have to wait and see what happens with the Van Dijk allegations and if anything comes out of it from the police or the SFA.

The police confirmed this week that they are working with both clubs and are analysing television and CCTV.

Thankfully, we don't have many incidents like this in Scottish football but even one is far too many. It's shameful when you hear it happening on the continent.

It is unacceptable and if anyone is caught in this instance, or any in the future, I would hope they would face severe punishments from the authorities.

We have had problems with other issues in Scotland and for this to raise its head again is extremely disappointing.

There is no place for it in our game and thankfully something we don't have to deal with very often in our country.
